Twelve Days

Twelve Days

Hook Norton Brewery

Christmas Brown Ale - 5.5% ABV

And a Partridge in a Pear Tree....

Well, the festive season is upon us and the Big Day is fast approaching. So with a mere 12 days to go (actually 11 - but who's counting?? 🤔) let's do our first Christmas Beer Review on Oh Beer Network 🎄

We have a very well respected brew to start us off with. It's from an old family brewery that was established in 1849 and is a great example of an old school 'Victorian Tower Brewery', based in Oxfordshire in England.

The beer itself is called Twelve Days and it has been described by many as 'Christmas in a Glass'. Not just that, but with numerous awards over the past 7 years in both UK and Global categories, this beer certainly comes with a sack full of hype to live up to!

Let's see what we think...

In The Glass -

It's a dark red looking ale with an off white foam lid sitting on top. Not too much carbonation but a lovely looking spicy Brown Ale none the less.

On The Nose -

Spicy caramel malt flavours come through heavily. This Brown Ale wants you to be relaxed when you drink it and the discreet, rich, nutty aromas in the background whisper "Tis the Season".

To Taste -

It has a lovely smooth mouthfeel and is very easy drinking. With 5.5% ABV you could enjoy a fair few of these beside the Christmas tree before feeling compelled to rock around it.

Make no mistake though, this beer isn't one you'll be knocking back following a couple of Jägerbombs at the staff party. This is more like the kind of ale to be drunk out of a tankard whilst wearing a big, wholly Christmas jumper, beside a log fire, listening to Bing Crosby and David Bowie singing about a Drummer Boy - "Pa rum pum pum pum"

You see it's a very homely and comforting beer and I mean that in a positive way. The big malty, nutty flavours hug your tongue with a hint of spice at the back end leaving a sweet and fruity reminder about the full on flavours that are contained in this beer.

The balance is excellent which adds to it's easy drinking quality but which of course, was fully expected from a beer with such critical acclaim.

It is most definitely a 'Real Ale' and it's likely to be something your dad (or Grandad) would really appreciate but let's not rule anything out. The fact of the matter is, it tastes lovely. Not just that, but it also contains plenty of festive spirit -

And that can only be a good thing 😊
