Dirty Sanchez

Fierce Beer

A Fierce Poter - 6.5% ABV

Happy Brew Year....

Happy New Year everyone and welcome to 2017.

It's been fantastic getting a break and over indulging for the past few weeks but as Christmas disappears into the rear mirror, reality starts to make itself felt and today it became clear for most of us - Back to Work!! 😫

But it's not all bad, I here you say. Having a routine again and getting back into healthy(er) eating after the festive binge can have it's positives. Besides, if nothing else, there's only 3 more days until it is the weekend again.

Throughout the holidays I treated myself to some fabulous beers and I'm pretty excited to share my thoughts on some of them with you over the coming days.

Some were a bit disappointing to be honest but that isn't the case with today's brew and indeed, our first review of 2017.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you Dirty Sanchez by Fierce Beer.

As a lot of you will know, I have been giving Fierce Beer a real workout over the past month and I have to say, they are fast becoming one of my favourite breweries. This particular beer is a Porter and better than that it's got a chilli influence as well - Two of my favourite things!

So, without any further ado, let's check it out...

In The Glass:

A lovely, coal black body with a small, but nicely formed cream head of foam.

On The Nose:

Chocolate disguised slightly with a beautiful smoky aroma. At this stage it's possible to detect only a slight hint of chilli spice, but I'm sure it will become more apparent in the taste.

To Taste:

A smokey, chocolate, porter with a kick of heat to warm the cockles and firmly assert it's authority.

As the beer touches your mouth, the first thing that is apparent is how wonderfully smooth this porter is. The mouth feel is like velvet with tiny bubbles and it feels like it is soothing your tongue as it flows over and around it. It nearly reminds me a bit of that old Galaxy Chocolate commercial with the bath over flowing (or was that Cadburys Flake?).

The fairly substantial smoke flavours succeed in giving it a more mature and rugged character. Along with the sweet chocolate taste, comes the relaxed swagger of a Montecristo. The smokey cigar and peaty influences add nicely to the great quality and complexity of this beer.

But, just when you feel that everything is calm, relaxed and completely under control, it happens.

Straight from the Wild West, you find yourself in a proper Mexican Stand off - With a man sized chipotle chilli! 🌶

It's hot alright, but it isn't ridiculous.

It's less than Fuego Feroz (reviewed previously), but not by much. As far as I'm concerned, chilli's taste great in beer as they give it staying power. Something that sticks with your taste buds and that you can enjoy for a while after you swallow the beer down.

It gives it character and the amount that they have put into this excellent Porter is spot on (for my taste anyway).

In summary - I love Smoked Porters, I love chocolate and I LOVE Chilli.

This has all three in a fantastically well balanced brew ❤️
